I have just finished the retro fit of the new Explora-Dome on the old trailer. I little hard to get used to it just looks too different. The #2 rotation kit works well and rotates with the drive wheel and pinch wheel in place with two fingers. It doesn't look like it will take much of a motor to rotate it. If I can ever figure out how to post pictures I will post a few of the new look.

PS If you watched the news the jet that crashed today missed me by a mile.

Merlin;

You have my email address. You can certainly email the pictures to me, and I'd be more than happy to post them here in this thread for you (IMG:http://www.observatorycentral.com/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Don't worry about the size of the images. If they're BIG, that's ok. I'm on a cable modem. I could size them down too if need be before posting them for ya. I'll bet it looks just fine sitting there on your mobile observatory  I look forward to seeing them :smt026 :smt026 :smt026 You have your orders! Now get busy and email me some pictures! Hey Merlin - LOOKS REAL GOOD !!! I do like the idea of the mobile setup, gives you tons of opportunities for places to do astro. You'll have to do some inside shots.

Strgzr would you believe it, I still get people asking what it is. Go figure!

Carol Thanks for the co-dos. I will take some pictures of it set up at the star party. Both inside and out.

Gee that dome sure looks nice up there! So pretty & white. It looks like it belongs there, like it's been there forever. Must make you feel right good to see it up there.
Way to go! :smt041 :smt038 :smt041 :smt038 :smt041

Rich I kind of miss the old one. But this one does look better. The rotation on this one is real easy. Two fingers and it moves.

As posted in another thread I just got back from the Mt Bachelor Star Party. The rep from TeleView said he has not seen skies that good at any other party all year. The seening was outstanding!!!! The dome operated superbly providing shelter on the last two nights that turned out quite windy and cold but still good skies. I had many guests those nights and think three or four more domes may get ordered from it. During the day temps got above 90 outside but the dome stayed a nice 70-80. It surprised myself and my guests at how cool it was. This dome continues to surprise even me at how well it performs. Those of you still building or thinking of ordering a dome will be in for a real treat.

Merlin,

You're portable OBS has to be one of the most innovative ideas I have seen! Kudos on the creativity! Wow, awesome idea!

Now that you have had it for some time, what are your thoughts on it? Are you happy with how it performs? Is there anything that you would do different if you were to build one again? Do you ever use it at your home or for the most part do you always travel to a dark site?

I don't know if you're into astro-photography, but if you are have you had any issues with stability when you're photographing?

Dave

It's interesting that people have no idea what it is. I was a bit worried about it attracting thieves but I'm now thinking that it won't be such a problem. Since it is sitting close to our horses, I've had several people think it's a large storage bin for horse food pellets. Right now it's on the ground, but when it's on a four foot base I think most will continue in this belief.

Just tell them it spreads the feed as it rotates! It's the latest thing in equestrian feed technology! (IMG:http://www.observatorycentral.com/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

To me it looks more like the turret on a tank. (IMG:http://www.observatorycentral.com/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Actually you need to see the old dome that was made from one of the calf hatcheries. That with a five inch refractor would fit that description nicely.

Merlin, do you have a picture of the old dome on the observatory for Dave to see?
