And finally, here is one of the 18" mirror I was grinding out, while we were viewing.

The machine just ran, and ran, while we viewed, and aligned. We eventually turned off all the lights, and the machine when it got darker.

Thanks for peeking in.

Did you buyor build the polishing machine? I can't tell much detail from the photos.

I just saw that last photo after my previous post. That looks like you have it on a drill press? I take it that means you can grind flat mirrors but not convex mirrors?

NO..it is a two table polishing machine that has rotating tables, and an arm that occilates back and forth.

Notice the symetrical polishing parks on the mirror?
I was working on just outside the center.

I'll post a better image of the machine later.

Here is an image of it. As I mentioned it has two tables, and reciprocating spindles.

It's in my scope garage/mirror making shop.

This might be a dumb question but I know nothing about all of this.

Do you have the ability "in house" to apply the reflective coating as well and do you use aluminum or silver?

No Ron, I simply cut, grind, and polish/figure.

The mirrors will all be sent out for aluminizing/coating.

"No Ron, I simply cut, grind, and polish/figure."

I've not cut, but I have ground and polished two mirrors, a 6" and a 10" and I can honestly say I would not use the word "simply" to describe the process. Not hard, but not simple either.

A machine would have been fantastic!

I did use the word *Loosely* huh.gif

However....Cutting is time consuming(not hard), and grinding is time consuming(not hard), and polishing is tricky(not hard), and figuring is challenging......To say the least.
