Well Honestly I say this new board is not a dream but more like a

angry.gif NIGHTMARE angry.gif

I was trying to change to a more moderate skin where I can see the letters in dark on light background but did not find it anywhere

Maybe I am getting stupid or ...

Well I tried to get used to this new forum but I just want to say

I AM DEFINETIVELY OUT OF HERE tongue.gif

Sorry you feel that way, Rainer, really I am. I had lobbied for a "Night Vision" friendly red shades version of the skin, but it turns out that having more than 1 skin option (though it would have been unique) makes for MUCH more work for the admin team. If the alternate skin has any errors in it, then the forum experience for newcomers is flawed and not their best work. It's like showing dinner guests at your house an astrophoto that has stars that aren't round. You'd be embarrased that guests aren't seeing your best work. Same with skins it seems.
I hope you change your mind and return, your experience with your observatory is of great interest to others entering this field. You have friends here! Come back when you can!
Saludos, amigo!

Rainer,

It would be very helpful if you could share more about the problems that you're having. On my monitor the forum is very easy to read and the print shows up very nicely. Is it possible that you're contrast on your monitor is set too low? What problem are you running into?

I understand we have some tweaking of colors to do here, but overall, I have no problems reading anything here on any of my 3 computers and a Laptop...

Funny, I was going to repsond in the previous thread where I asked if this was the final skin but that thread was locked for whatever reason.

I was asked what I thought was "dim" and maybe it could be tweaked.
I guess I'm not a big fan of a montone palette, such as we have here, grey on grey. I tend to find that i either miss things or have to hunt for new items as opposed to them standing out.
Should I assume that the grey hue was chosen to preserve dark adaptation?

Regardless, this is a democratic forum and the majority rules (I hope), so it's not a big deal. I tend to adapt pretty well most of the time.

Sortof... The darker skin is more pleasing to the eye, and yes, helps with the dark adapted eyes (not fully, but mostly). Also, when it comes to skins, many of your brighter ones are OVERWHELMINGLY bright, and some just plain look gawdy..

We did put this and other skins to a vote (Moderator vote), and this one and one other tied.. Based upon that, as well as the comments they left, we choose to use this skin, and continue to tweak it to make it better... smile.gif

Well Like Rsbfoto ..

I am having a hard time reading the forum....ACTUALLY a VERY HARD TIME...

looked around to see if any other skins were available and did not find any...

New format is just a total Bummer to me...... I just do not need a headache from straining my eyes ...

Boy, all I can figure is you guys must be on older CRT monitors. My flat screen is 2 feet away from where I sit. I'm using 1280 x 1024 resolution which makes for very tiny print. Yet I can see everything on the forum using this skin with ease and no eye strain at all.

Well, if it displays that poorly on the older monitors, then we may need to consider a different or a second skin.

I was still thinking of lightening the background a bit more, and perhaps (at least to test), go with a dark font...

Other than that, we can change the font to something with a touch of yellow in it (just a touch) to bring it out more...

But like you, I have no problems seeing anything... And as I stated earlier, thats on 3 separate computers and a laptop (Which are notorious for bad screens) with a new Flatscreen, and old flatscreen, and a 17" CRT thats about 5 years old...

I do not know if this will help or not....I just powered up my CRT 17" monitor and everything was extremely dark. MUCH more so than on the flat screen I'm using. So, I opened the nVidia panel for the CRT and adjusted the brightness. It not only improved the OC, but the sreen saver on the CRT is much better now also.

So, IF what you see is dark, to the point you cannot find the reply/quote buttons, and there is not a defintitive difference between each post, I'd suggest right cliking on the desktop, then on ".....display", open the color correction tab and slide the brightness slider to increase. Depending on your PC config, the directions may differ....

Also download "Adobe Gamma" and do a monitor calibration... BIG DIFFERENCE! smile.gif

Use the chart below, The PRIMARY colors are Red, Green and Blue.. The center where they overlap should be PURE WHITE. If you're seeing a shade of gray or the colors look muted, then your monitor needs adjustment.

If your having a really hard time reading the forum just go to the bottom of the page and hit the "Lo-Fi" button.

You will then get black letters on a white background which is extremely easy to read. True, you can't do a lot of other things, but it will at least allow anyone with any problems reading this skin to be able to read any other posts.

This skin is unbelievably complex and I'm finding new thing every time I push something. Now if I could only remember for more then five minutes what I pushed and what it did, I'd be home free. blink.gif

At the top of each thread, look for the "Options" pull down menu. In there you can do "Print this topic" where it brings the whole topic into a formatted page for printing. MUCH easier to read there as well..

Well I now have everything set to the daylight BLUE skin and it makes all the difference in the world...took a little time to find out how to do it (especially since I could not read the original skin all that well.. LOL

Honestly I have no idea how old my monitor is as its an old one I pulled out of the garage a few days ago
after my not too old flat screen monitor went tits up and died...

Anyway everything is not just fine...

I want to thank Dave and Neo for all their hard work in getting this forum up and especially for adding this Blue Sky skin. While I was able to read the other one, these old eyes really like this one better.

Thanks guys!

Everything Ron just said and more! My eyes are really enjoying the new Blue Skies skin. I was able to see with the Dark Nights skin too, but this one is making things so much more enjoyable for my eyes. Hope my age has nothing to do with this! tongue.gif This site just keeps getting better & better each day. Please don't think all the hard work & time involved has gone unnoticed! biggrin.gif
