My two sons surprised me yesterday morning and pulled into my yard with
a trailer full of lumber and a friend at 6 AM (no small feat since they both live a few feat since they both live almost 200 miles from ...
Anyhow my observatory is not almost complete and they did not drink all of my beer or even touch any until they were done for the day ..they did do a number on it this morning however...
Anyway I looked at the transition pieces this afternoon and boy I fingured they would fit ... way too big...looks like each piece will have to be trimmed about 3 inches... IS THIS NORMAL.. My old trusty rule proved to me the 120 inch demensions are right on the money.. the ring section is correct but the boys used a saber saw to cut the rings out did not want to "waste" time
using one of my routers...
If I can attach a picture or two I will....still need some bracing and yes the Pier is NOT there...Yet.. But this old guy can not complain free labor and free material is a hard deal to turn down ..especially when they wake you up
in the early morning..

Hi Bob; are you referring to the COVER pieces for the transition from Explor-A-Dome?

Yep the cover pieces....
Without cutting them no way will they fit...
Figure I will need to trim 3 inches or thereabout off each piece ..was not expecting to need to do this..
Steve Durham e-mailed me to send him the picts and he will post them...

Wow Bob. That is way cool. I thought you might have a problem doing a pier after the observatory but I can see this should not be an issue. If your son has anymore energy left send him out to me. I am building an other observatory and could use all the help and materials I can get. This looks great and the beer is a small price to pay you betcha.

I think I will have to trim mine also but that shouldent be a big problem, the hardest part will be geting the lip under the dome with the dome on the rollers.[

Yeah, welcome to Xosmos!
Whatta way to hijack a thread!
You need to start a separate thread on this beauty of yours so we can drool properly! :smt003
I see what you mean about the lip. I think you mean by "lip" what we've been calling the "dome retention ring" and I can see how getting it in place could be tricky at best...
Gotta think this one over a bit...

Hello James;
Here's what I'm planning: After building the wood sub-structure and attaching the roof transitions, I will then cut and attach the plywood rings and all the roller wheels. Then...I plan to set the dome up on top and onto the rollers (I'll have the PE tracks from the Rotation Kit #2 already attached to the underside of the dome's lip). Lastly, I will then attach the retaining ring segments to the bottom skirting of the dome....I "think"
I hope you check in soon and give us an updated progress report with more pictures!!!
